For the very first time since Tim Cook announced it a few weeks ago – and for just one day this week – the Apple Watch was on public display at high-end Parisian concept boutique store, colette. Notably, Apple organized this in an effort to bring the Apple Watch, albeit temporarily, closer to fashionistas attending the Paris Fashion Week.
The wearing experience of the MB&F HM6 watch is similar to that of the HM4 watch (hands-on here). Both of these timepieces have similar articulating lugs so that the watch wears more comfortable as it wraps around your wrist, and the strap designs are similar. I'd say, while the MB&F HM6 has the potential of looking strange on your wrist, it doesn't wear uncomfortably. Part of that is aided by the timepieces surprising lightness. It really does feel as though it should be heavier, but the light weight is certainly welcome.
It is also interesting to note that Hamilton had just a few weeks to produce the Murph Watch from concept to production and approval by the Interstellar producers. Hamilton is no novice to the demanding schedules of movie production and is known in Hollywood as a go-to brand when it comes to offering both unique and standard timepiece models for characters to wear. According to Hamilton, as of 2014, they have over 400 movie placement credits. Hamilton CEO Mr. Sylvain Dolla is really proud of this fact, and we've enjoyed a lot conversations together talking about working with various production teams. He makes it clear just how impressed he is at how many knowledgeable watch lovers there are in Hollywood. According to him, many times when Hamilton is approached, the producers and prop masters know exactly what they are looking for - and he is honored that Hamilton is called upon time and time again to participate in a range of movies and television shows.
The reason why this makes sense is that this way, the movement's color now matches the Grade 5 titanium case just about perfectly – leading one to believe that the plates have been crafted from titanium as well, although that is not the case. The price that is to be paid for such harmony between caliber and case is that this anthracite finish, thanks to its matte surface, does not shine as brightly and does not display as many shiny bevels and plates as traditional movements do. The modern aesthetic is further emphasized by the angular, recessed areas on the plates which serve to replace the Geneva striping and perlage we would otherwise see.
Richard Mille, being who they are, though, are not about to leave things just with a trick like that (impressive as it is). The movement that makes all of this possible is made from grade-5 titanium, with a variety of finishes. You can see part of the movement via the exhibition case back, but this is actually rather uninspired – and arguably not as fancy and colorful as one would expect on a women's watch – especially when compared to the show you have on the dial side.
Rolex creates the love affair people have with their products and companies like Bamford simply exploit it. There isn't anything wrong with that, but George wouldn't be doing the same type of work if he was trying to create passion rather than manipulate and enhance it. For him, it is about taking widely known products with established characters and markets and simply making them more unique. It isn't about making his own red dress that no one else has, it is about taking the red dress everyone is used to and putting pinstripes on it.
The multi-touch LCD is protected by tempered glass, measures 1.54-inches across, and has a display resolution of 240 x 240 pixels. Underneath, it is powered by a 1GHz single-core low-power CPU by Imagination Technologies. It features 4GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM, and offers Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. It also runs Android 4.4 KitKat. Unfortunately, because of its full-color display and the fact that it runs Android OS, battery life does suffer somewhat and the SpeedUp SmartWatch has a claimed battery life of just under a day at 20 hours. Depending on your usage, the watch might or might not make it through a day.
Having said that, we've put together 7 ways to survive as a watch lover on a budget so that you can enjoy as many of the best watches possible for your hard earned money. It is possible to be a serious watch lover while also being relatively economical - and you don't even need to resort to becoming a watch blogger to do so! It will just take a bit more time and energy, but for many timepiece aficionados it will be more than worth it for the results.

We know that Robin William's passing was a product of suicide. Nothing feels more of a shame than a life ending before it was meant to be over. I don't know a lot about suicide or the deep depression that causes people to consider it - and would never judge someone who felt they needed to make such a massively impactful decision on their own lives, as well as the lives of the people who care about them. What I do know is that suicide is a tough subject that people don't like to think or talk about. From what I can gather, suicide is not the product of a bad life or down times, but a result of years of emotional misery and instability.
It’s easy to understand the appeal of the engaging conversations and relationships that can result from mutually beneficial private trades. The idea of “swapping horses” with owners of similar interests is warmer and more personal than the commercial trade market, so private trades are appealing on an emotional level. When a trade is agreed between close friends, watch club members, and individuals in close geographic proximity, trading between private owners can be rewarding and socially engaging.
Save the date – “It’s About TIME” will be coming to a city near you:
It is thus very fitting, in my opinion, that Hublot inaugurate its relationship with the World Poker Tour with such a watch. Hublot will be the official watch, as well as the official timekeeper of the World Poker Tour's events, such as the Five Star Diamond World Poker Classic event. The winner of which will receive a unique Hublot watch next year. So why poker and why the World Poker Tour?
Outside of when people or companies ask for my advice or consultation, I've stopped offering specific feedback to watch brands on their marketing practices. That is because I have inadvertently insulted many people who were working in that area for a lot longer than myself, and because I came across as cocky or that I knew more than other people. Such complications no doubt get in the way of anyone's idealism, but it has also given me an opportunity to step back and observe the marketing efforts of the watch industry in a more detached, mature, and open-minded manner, without feeling it necessary to always comment. On that note, I'll proceed with certain questions and observations about the effects of current watch industry marketing that I've noticed come up over the years.
Furthermore, the Zenith El Primero Synopsis offers a splendid look into the movement: one of its key design features is the large opening on the dial between the 8 and 12 o'clock positions. Under the uniquely shaped bridges, the fourth wheel, the escape wheel, pallet fork, and balance wheel are visible. The escape wheel and pallet fork shine in an iridescent hue of purple and blue, due to the fact that for this movement, they were crafted from silicon.
Fast forward a few agonizingly long weeks, and I find myself trying to play it cool while I wait for a client to return in *my* Veyron. I've signed papers that, financially speaking, put the entire weight of the Bugatti Veyron's intimidating value solely upon my vast kingdom, or the kingdom of my offspring, should I perish while behind the wheel. The "test drive" would take place on the open roads around the Quail Lodge in Carmel, and I would be in (hopefully) full control of 1200 well-fed ponies after a brief introduction and ride with a Bugatti Test Driver.
Martin Pulli: All types of watches are popular. Although, I find the sports models are the top choice among modern watch buyers. Philadelphia is a very old city, and the foundation of the city was Quaker. Now, in 2014, we have a very modern, urban city with a wide mix of folks. However, the base of the city in regard to purchases is still relatively conservative. We have a long time association with watchmaking in Pennsylvania, because Hamilton was located in Lancaster, PA for over 100 years.
Fiona is young and obsessed with design in a way I could never be. She proudly carries with her a large sketch book full of drawings, clippings, and inspirations which illustrate the development of the Skull watch. According to Fiona, her studies at ECAL were specifically in the design and production of luxury items - and of course, it doesn't surprise me that such areas of study are specified and offered in Switzerland. She mentioned that, on at least a few occasions, watch brands would work with the local Swiss design school to have students create designs and concepts for their brands - in some instances, that turns into business for them both. Likewise, given that Fiona created the Memento Mori Skull watch while at school, I think it is likely that ECAL has at least some minor stake in it.
It is said that watch sales people have a saying, “You only need to sell the dial.” For enthusiasts like us, we all know that what lies underneath the dial is just as, if not more, important. I’m referring to the movement, of course. Made up of hundreds of tiny parts, enthusiasts like us can just sit around and talk about movements all day. And one topic that is often a point of contention is in-house movements. Just how “in-house” must be it to earn that designation? Are they truly better than ebauches? And is there any difference between in-house made and in-house designed? Ariel shares his thoughts.
The e-Strap is "NATO-style" in terms of how it is designed and how it connects to the watch. Montblanc has made it clear that the e-Strap is debuting with the Timewalker Urban Speed but will be compatible with all 42mm or 43mm wide Timewalker watches currently or previously available. It should also fit on various other watches with similar lug space sizes (perhaps 22mm wide or so). Of course, if you simply don't want the e-Strap, you can get the Montblanc Timewalker Urban Speed without it.
